Background

Our clients purchased this site to create a bespoke home, downsizing from a much larger property.

The Challenge

The brief was to create an elegant yet easy to manage home for our client, large enough to accommodate guests and extended family, yet easily managed with just two in residence.

The major consideration was to use technology to make the lighting and electrics of the home both simple to use and energy efficient.

The Solution

Like most people our clients knew exactly what they were looking for; but not how to achieve it.
Before the first block was laid we worked with them closely, setting out the lighting and the controls in a manner that we knew would work for them.

Published case studies proved extremely useful at this stage, including Sally Storey’s book “Perfect Lighting” which has excellent illustrations of how stuff looks when lit well, this gave our clients confidence that the result would do exactly what they needed..

Lighting is mostly simple downlighters, but using the best quality dimmable LED lamps available from Bell, however coffers were used in the principal rooms lit by LED strip with great effect.

Lighting control is Lutron Homeworks in all the principal rooms, only the minor bedrooms are on conventional switching. Our client uses the Lutron connect application on his iPad to great effect both when at home and when away.

The Results

Our clients are delighted with the results.

We spent several evenings working with them getting the settings exactly right; and now all the scenes are correctly set for each of the rooms, all they have to do is press the button.

The centrepiece light in the central hall is a real eye catcher, setting off the rest of the house, and the coffers just set out the dining room and family areas perfectly.

The external lighting operates automatically after much adjustment to account for roaming pets & urban foxes: and can also be operated from several locations inside the house.
